Diaries of the 3rd week

March 11, 2007
Today I visited the city again. It was the fourth time for me to visit there. I visited Melbourne Zoo and Captain Cook's cottage. In the Zoo, I was really scared that animals were so close to me! I have never experienced such a dangerous Zoo in my life.
Since I was short of cash, I also visited many gardens and parks such as Royal park, Prince park, Edinburgh gardens, Treasury gardens, Fizroy gardens, and Alexandra gardens. Today was such fine weather, these parks were really confortable.
Last, but not least, I visited to MOONBA. This festival was a little different from what I expected. However, this festival was really interesting. It was the first time for me to watch watersking. On the other hand, I didn't know that this festival has been held since last Friday. So I should've visited on Saturday.
My plans for next weekends is that I will go to FINA world chanpionships(Swimming competitions). Though I haven't bought the ticket, I want to see synchronised swimming at the Rod lavor arena.

It's not my day...
I've never experienced such a bad day here.
First, because it is Labour day, there were few buses which go to the University. Then somehow I felt like walking to the University. However it took me an hour and a quater to get there. That's why I was sleepy during class. Also, one of today's topics was not interesting...
After the school, I went to the budloop and waited for the bus (#733). Then a bus came. I checked the bus's number so as not to get on the wrong one. I felt relieved that the number was 733. SOON I realized that this bus was the wrong one. The direction of the bus was opposited to my hostfamiliy's house. So I got off the bus in haste.
After I returned to my hostfamily's house, there were nothing such bad things. I thought it's not my day, again and again.

About My Oral Presentation
As you know, my major is junior high school English teaching. So I want to speak about Japanese teaching in Australia. In my hostfamily's house, I found a very funny textbook by accident. The textbook's name was "OBENTO"!?
Though this textbook is about Japanese, I found that there are some funny features in the textbook. For example, each unit contains these element; OHASHI(chopsticks), OSHOOYU(soy sauce), OKASHI(sweets) etc. I wondered why these words are used in this textbook.
(My teacher's guess was that students can remember the names of common Japanese food items.)
However, the same thing might happen in English textbooks in Japan. In today's class, I showed an English textbook to a native English student and asked her comments. Then she told me that there were some words which native speakers don't use often. I agreed with her opinion, for, in OBENTO, there are many phrases that are too polite for Japanese to use in casual conversation.
Anyway, to make my presantation successful, I have to summarize it. Also, I may make some handouts. What's more, I have to use body languages and eye contacts during my presentation. However, so far, all I have to do is just summarize the issue.

I was really tired, for, today's topics were a little difficult for me. So we went to the gym for a change. We played badminton. Since I was a beginner, it was hard for me to play it. However, the more I played, the more I understood the secret of playing badminton. Finally, I enjoyed playing badminton.
After that, I went to a shop near Mt. Waverley Station. I wanted to buy some chocolates for my friends in Japan as souveniors. However, it was a little more expensive than I thought. So instead of chocolates, I bought chips for me.

We went to Mornington Peninsula as a field trip. Two weeks ago, I went to the observesion deck and saw the Peninsula. However, I have no idea what it is, so I really curious about it.
First, we went to the farm (I forgot the name...). At the farm, we observed many cattle. Also, we saw two sheep dogs. And we learned how to crack a whip. It was quite difficult for me to master it.
Next, we went to Boneo maze. We tried so many mazes. Above all, the Maize maze was really difficult for us. No sooner had I tried, than I lost my way. What was worse, I was thirsty at that time.
Finally, we went to the Briars(something like a cottage). However, I was so tired that during the movie, I took a nap. But after the movie, I learned many things about 1800-1950s Australia.
After the field trip, one of my firends taught me how to use powerpoint. There is a little time left to prepare for the presantatoin, so I have to complete it tomorrow.
