My Plans and Hopes for My Time in Melbourne

Last weekend, I went to center of the city by myself. I visited to the aquarium, observation deck, carlton gardens royal exvision building, and museum. However, there are so many places which I want to visit in the city. So next weekend, I will go there again. Also, if I can, I want to go on a sightseeing tour of the Philip Island.
And I have many hopes for my time here. First, needless to say, I want to brush up on my English skills! Especially, I want to make myself understand English more fluently. Secoundly, I want to know more about different cultures. To my surprise, there are so many non-Australian people (migrants) in Melbourne than I expected. So it's a good oppotunity for me to learn about it. Finally, I want to enjoy eating Chinese food. Since my hostfamily came from China, sometimes I eat Chinese food. So far, I ate rice noodles, fried rice, and kakuni. However, it seems like there are so many kinds of Chinese food which I have never tried. So, I want to try these foods someday.
Anyway, I really want to enjoy English and life in Melbourne.

Chadstone Shopping Center

It was the first time for me to go to Chadstone shopping center. My first impression of the shopping center was very spacious! There are some shopping centers in Japan, however, these shopping centers are not as spacious as those of Chadstone. So I narrowly got lost in the shoppimg center.
To my surprise, some shops sell expensive things. I went to a jewlery shop and asked a clerk what article is the most expensive. Then, she told me it was a ring and cost $ 50, 000! I wondered who will buy such an expensive ring.
And I found that there were some Japanese shops in the shoppimg center. However, in my opinion, these shops are so-called "stereotyped" images of Japanese shops! I felt quite funny that there was a torii in front of the entrance to the shop!
I regret that the only thing I bought was a strawberry ice cream. Though the ice cream was really yummy, I should have bought more things in the shopping center. Anyway, all I can say ia that I'm exhausted from walking around the shopping center. I really enjoyed "windowshopping".

March 7, 2007

This morning, I went to school earlier than usual, because I wanted to use the PC and know what happens in Japan by the Internet. However, there were a few news on the Internet. So I was a little disappointed.
At lunchtime, I ate a chickenburger. The price of Australian humburgers are more expensive than that of Japan, but the taste was not bad. If anything, the humburger was so yummy! So next time, I want to try other Australian food. Of course, I won't to have a big helping of these foods.
And I learned many things about Australian animals in today's class. There were so many words I haven't hered before the class, especially specific terms. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's field trip!
After the school, I went to the shopping street near the Mt. Waverley Station. Some shops sold funny Japanese goods. For exapmle, though the shop was a sushi-bar, there were other Asian foods like Mongolian, Malaysian and Chinese in the menu. Since my major is junior high school English teaching, I will buy English textbooks in Australia later.

Field Trip

Today, We had a field trip. So I was really excited.
First, we went to Puffing Billy and got on a steame train. I've never seen it before I came here. I was really impressed by the view form the steam train.
After that, we went toHealesville Sanctuary. As I expected, there were many Australian animals in the Sanctuary. Though we had not enough time to go around the Sanctuary, we really enjoyed obeserving these animals. However, since all koalas in the Sanctuarywere sleeping at that time, I was a little disappointed.
Finally, we went to Yarra valley and visited a winery. In fact, I didn't know that I can go there in today's field trip. In the winery, I enjoyed tasting wine. Also, I recognized differences of wine, such as color, smells, and tastes.
I returned my homestay's home later than I expected, for, there was a traffic jam. That's why I was so late (It was about 6:20 pm).
My plan for tomorrow is that I will go to the shopping center near Mt.Waverley Station again. There are some shops I've never visited. So I will enjoy "windowshopping" tomorrow.

March 10, 2007
Today, I went to the city with my six Japanese friends (so-called BAD BOYS). We visited to China, Greek srteet, Aboriginal art garalley etc. I've already visited to Melbourne museum, so after 12;00, I went around the city by myself. After the lunch, I visited the old Melbourne Gaol, Lygon street (something like Italy town), Flagstaff garden, Telestra dome, and Victoria harbor.
When I was sitting on the bench at the old Melbourne Gaol, I was spoken by an old woman. She said, "You have a colorful and lovely map. I think it"s useful." to my surprise, the old woman and his husband came from France, and will visit to Japan on May. They will visit to Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo. So I talked with them about Japan.
By the way, I found that there were so many funny Japanese restaurants in China town. These restaurants are quite strange for me on points of funny kanji, food, and how they look. Of course, I won't eat at there!

Maruchan,
You should stay in Australia longer. It has been snowing for two days in Morioka and the weather is freezing cold. It is absolutely miserable here. I am envious of you.
